About the Event
This production of Beth's Journey, a one-act play by playwright Jules Abrams from his book Return Engagement Plays for Seniors, is made possible by ArtAge Publications, the Senior Theater Resource Center. Beth's Journey tells the story of a homeless woman who is spotted by the concerned residents of a retirement community who intervene and try to help her.
Following the reading of the play there will be a small panel discussion, hosted by moderator Nancy Schlossberg; joined by Brenda Schneider, LCSW in private practice and a volunteer at the Women's Resource Center (Sarasota location); and Megan Howell, Executive Director and Founder of Second Heart Homes in Sarasota. Second Heart Homes is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing permanent housing to those with mental illness who have experienced or are at-risk of homelessness. Megan also serves on the leadership council for the SunCoast Partnership to End Homelessness Council.
The cast of eleven playreaders is directed by Linda Albert. This performance of Beth's Journey is produced by Helen Shaw. Cast understudy and assistant to the director is Terry Fleming.
